This website was launched on my 70th birthday, i.e. 18th April 2012.

I have decided to create this website in order to make all my speeches, lectures, papers, and articles and my important judgments available to members of the public who might be interested to read them and, hopefully, find them useful. This is my gift to mankind.

All my speeches, lectures, papers and articles to date have been uploaded. Most of my important judgments have so far been uploaded too.

Personally, this is one of the greatest satisfactions I have ever had. I remember distinctly that when I was lying on my back (that was the only position I was able to) on the hospital bed for about six months, beginning in October 2010, unable to eat, drink, move, speak or write, I thought that my days of giving speeches and lectures and presenting papers at conferences, seminars and workshops were over. I felt sad but if that was what Allah s.a.w. had pre-ordained for me, I was ready to accept it.

However, with the grace of Allah s.w.t., not only did I recover but I also regained my voice, enabling me to speak again publicly even though with only one side of my vocal cord functioning. It was even more meaningful because the first speech I delivered with my “second voice” was the speech at my daughter, Melati’s wedding reception on 2nd October 2011 followed, two weeks later by the reception speech at the UNITEN Convocation where I was conferred the Hon. Doctorate in Business Administration. What is important is that with the new voice I was able to add new speeches, lectures, papers and articles to the website.

Without naming them, I thank all those who have assisted me to create this website.

You are welcome to visit my other website, https://tunabdulhamid.me

Salam and best regards to all.

Tun Abdul Hamid Mohmad

 FIRST YEAR

Today, 18th April 2013, on my 71st birthday, this website is exactly one year old. At 8.00 am it has received 43,805 visits (average 120 per day). I thank everyone for visiting my website. I hope they have benefited from it.

During the period I had added 24 papers in spite of the fact that I was again hospitalised for two months and without voice (for the second time) for about five months. Indeed the most number of papers uploaded during any period of two months is the period of two months I was in hospital, surviving on milk being fed through the nose and not knowing whether I would ever be able to eat and drink normally again (or speak again, for the second time). Of the six papers uploaded during that period, three were read on my behalf by someone at the respective conference or seminar while I was at the hospital. The other three were read by someone in my presence at the conference or seminar which, by then, I was already able to attend but was still unable to deliver or present the papers myself as I still had not recovered my voice.

Alhamdulliah, on 14th January 2013, I was again able to present a paper titled “Fifty Years of Independence: Revisiting the Federal Constitution – Legal Changes and Impact’’ at the Transformation of Security and Fundamental Rights Legislation Conference organised by the Attorney Generals Chambers. That was the first paper I presented with my "third voice" still with only one side of my vocal cord functioning.

What can I say except Alhamdulillah and thank you all?

SECOND YEAR

Today, 18 April 2014, the second year of this website, my 72nd birthday and I am in Cempaka Room, Ward 28, Kuala Lumpur Hospital for the past one month. However, I managed to make some calculations. The number of visitors has increase by 60,285 from 43,888 one year ago to 104,173 (137%). That makes me happy even though I am in hospital.

Once again I thank all those who have assisted me to set up this website as well as those who have supported it.

Thank you

THIRD YEAR

Alhamdulillah, throughout the third year I was not hospitalised even though during the last quarter, I was already unable to stand and walk unassisted. However, the third year saw a marked increase in the number of speeches, papers and articles I delivered or wrote. They totalled 35 altogether. In terms of number of visitors, it was 103,448 giving an average of 283 a day, an increase of 71% from the previous year.

FOURTH YEAR

The fourth year roughly comprised of the second half of 2015 and the first half of 2016. During that period, my health was going down again. My legs were becoming more and more numb culmination to my inability to stand even with the support of the walking frame. I have to be helped by two persons to make me sit on the wheelchair and then pushed me to my computer table. Even then, I could only sit for about an hour at a time as the numbness and the pain would become unbearable that I have to be helped back to the bed.

Under the circumstances, I only accepted a few very important invitations to speak around Putrajaya. Even then, for the last three invitations I had to be carried on a stretcher in an ambulance to the place and then transferred to the wheelchair when my time to speak arrived. Hence, I joked, “I have undergone six surgeries but all were below the neck. So, what is above the neck is still original.”

However, I still wrote when I had something to say. It was also during that that period when my two books were published. They are “I Will Never Beg” and “The Truth Shall Prevail”. Most important of all, it was during that period that I received the National Level Ma’al Hijrah Award (1437) making me the first former Chief Justice and Judge of the Civil Court to receive the award. Perhaps, even more important was the fact that my speech was televised live to the whole country. I delivered the speech sitting on a wheelchair. I consider that as a God-arranged “last sermon” for me. Indeed I felt that my life was complete after the speech.

In terms of number, the total number of visitors was 80,234 giving an average of 219 a day, down by 23% from the previous year. I am still very happy with it.

I have three more books under edition. I hope to be able to see them.

FIFTH YEAR

Throughout the whole of the 5th Year, I was lying on my back unable even to turn to the right or to the left or to move my leg even for an inch. Unless I am asleep, once in an hour or so, I would call my wife of my maid either to turn me or to lift and bend my legs. However, while lying on my back, I would use my mine Ipad to type the draft of whatever coves to my mind. Then, I email it to myself.

Two or three times a day, my wife and our maid would help me to stand up using the walking frame for support while they pressed my knees to prevent me from collapsing. I would turn bit by bit and sit on the wheelchair. Then, I am pushed to my computer table where I would continue the work and email to me again for continuation when I am lying on my back again.

Even then, I did deliver a few speeches. I travelled in an ambulance lying on a stretcher, transferred to the wheel chair and pushed to the hall just before my turn to speak. People say, without the wheel chair, no one would think I am ill.

Altogether, I wrote 37 speeches and articles during the year.

During this year too, three of my books were published, namely The Truth Shall Prevail, Saya Tidak Akan Melutut and Konflik dan Pengharmonian.

The number of visitors has also increased from an average of 204 a day in the fourth year to 275 a day, an increase of 34 per cent.

I thank Faizura Haneem for her continued assistance to maintain this website and all visitors who have made this website a success beyond my imagination.

 SIXTH YEAR

It is unbelievable that this is the eight year after my multiple surgeries. I remember praying to Allah, without much hope really, that He gives me five or six more years to see my grandchildren. Since then, he has given me eight years and four granddaughters. Alhamdulillah.

It is also unbelievable that I have been lying on my back for three and a half years. But, time seems to fly though I am in pain all the time, the difference being more or less, acute. But, one thing has improved my condition i.e. the hospital bed which I bought during this period. It enables me to turn and lie on my sides, instead of lying on my back all the time.

During the sixth year I wrote 30 pieces, mostly articles. I only attended conferences to deliver keynote addresses three times, that too in an ambulance. However, the impact seems to get stronger. This can be seen from the increase in the number of visitors which is the highest compared to the previous years. The average per day during the year had reached 321. That is in spite of the fact that my other website is also catching up. For example, in the month of April 2018 it has touched 110 per day.

The other developments are, quite often the shorter articles became viral through WhatsApp. Reporters seem to check this website to see whether there is anything new for them to publish or write a report about. Most of the time, the whole article is published in their publication.

I also received emails from readers, all very polite and almost all agreeing. I also receive requests for visitation which I have to be very selective because on my condition.

To visitors, thank you for your support. You are free to share the articles with you friends. That is my amal jariah, Insya Allah.

SEVENTH YEAR

Healthwise, my condition is similar to the previous year. However, that year I wrote 73 articles (including one speech), the most. The reason is because that period covers GE14 and the change of government.

My writings during that period appear to have had greater effects. My writings on ratification of ICERD had played an important part to influence the Malays to attend the 812 gathering, to quote Dato’ Seri Tuan Guru Haji Abdul Hadi Awang, President of PAS who came to thank me for it. Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad made a U-turn not to ratify it.

Two months later, Malaysia signed the Rome Treaty. At first, I did not want to get involved in the dispute whether Malaysia should ratify it or nor. But, when the Foreign Minister, I am sure on the advice of the Attorney General, wrongly stated that the Constitution need not be amended, the consent of the Conference of Rulers need not be obtained and the immunity of the Rulers is not affected, I had to and wrote an article to clarify it while leaving it to readers to decide for themselves whether to support or to object to the ratification. Subsequently, a video recording was made and distributed by the NGOs. Coincidentally, two days later, the Prime Minister mad yet another U-turn not to ratify it too.

My call for UMNO-PAS co-operation, which was earlier dismissed as “too idealistic” by a veteran UMNO Minister, began to show its effects, culminating in unimaginable co-operation and victory for BN in three consecutive by-elections of Cameron Highlands, Semenyih and Rantau.

On 10 April 2019, the Federal Court ruled by a majority of 5:4 that sections 56 and 57 of the Central Bank Act 2009 were constitutional. Those provisions were made on my suggestion in a paper written in 2002. Alone, I was defending it through my speeches and articles in order to avoid Syariah issues in Islamic banking being decided by non-shariah experts and non-Muslims binding on Muslims.

In terms of the number of visitors, the seventh year is the highest, so far with the total of 173,030 per year and 476 pe day. But, that is not the true reflection of the number of people actually reading them. First, Web 2 is catching up. Some articles receive many times more readers than in Web 1. It could be because it is in words. Secondly, the articles are also published by other bloggers. They are also distributed widely through Facebooks and WhatsApp. It does not matter to me so long as they are read.

However, for the first time I have the full year’s report for Web 2 that coincides with the same period for Web1. The total per year for Web2 is 49,696, average per month is 4,141 and average per day is 136. Than gives the combined total per year as 222,625, average per month as18,635 and average per day as 612.

EIGHTH YEAR

During the eight year of this website and the tenth year of my post-operation illness, I wrote either lying on my back using a mini Ipad or at the table using my pc when I am helped to sit on the wheelchair. Yet, I wrote 40 articles, an average of 3.3 a month.

During the year, the average number of visitors rose to 761 per day, the highest ever since the web was launched and 59% higher than the previous year. This is in spite of the fact that my second web takes away an average of 200 visitors a day and two blogs, Ismaweb and Bebas News, publishing the articles simultaneously. The number of readers on each of those two blogs are at least ten times more than on this website. That is not to mention the number of readers on other blogs that download from this web and upload onto theirs and those who share through WhatsApp.

Just four days ago, I received an email from a Ph. D candidate in Nigeria. He wrote:

“I just came across your research work titled "Obligation of Companies to pay Zakat: Issues arising from effects of separate legal entity ". May Allah preserve (sic) you and continue to make your knowledge benefit to Muslim nations at large.

My name is Ahmad Muhammad Oyedele from Nigeria. I am Ph.D student in the Dept. of Islamic Law, University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria. I find your research work so beneficial to my Ph.D research work. I want to say Jazakumullah Khairan for your efforts sir.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Ahmad Muhammad O.”

That email, coming eight years after I wrote the article, clearly shows it is a live issue.

On 19 04 2020, one day after I uploaded my latest article “Effects of faraid: what is the solution” a Malaysian sent me an email, inter alia, saying:

“… Tun's writing is very closely related to the Master’s degree research I am currently doing… Jazakumullah Khairan ... Abdul Rahman Musliman”.

Yet, a government pensioner wrote me saying that finding my writings on this website after retirement was like God-sent.

And considering the many people I do not know who keep writing to me praying for my good health (which, to me only means less pain), long life and urging me to keep writing for the benefit of the ummah, I feel obliged to continue writing so long as I can and so long as there are people who read them.

Salam and thank you.

NINTH YEAR

It appears that my public speaking days that began in 1960 ended in 2018, a period of 58 years. Yet even in 2020, two video recordings of my keynote addresses were made and heard, one at an NGO meeting in Penang and the other in an online forum.

Again, they are not the last. In 2021, the Ombudsman and Integrity Unit at the office of the Chief Minister of Sarawak approached me to speak at a webinar organized by them. I am the only speaker. It was first scheduled on 26th February 2021 but due to Covid-19 it was postponed a number of times until now.

Despite the fact that in the ninth year of the website, the sixth year I was immobile and confined to my room, mostly lying on my bed, I still wrote 23 articles and one speech.

The total number of visitors in the ninth year is the highest during the period of nine years with a total of 286,331, an average of 23,860 per month and 784 per day.

That is not counting the number of readers who read the articles in my other website, https://tunabdulhamid.me, (an average of more than 200 a day) and by other websites like Ismaweb and Bebas News and others. We also do not know the number who read them in Facebooks, WhatsApp and others.

In 2021, I published two books, my sixth and seventh, namely Hakim Bukan Parlimen and No Judge Is a Parliament consisting of my speeches and articles written in 2016 to 2020 in Malay and English, respectively. Unexpectedly, the first publication of 400 copies of Hakim Bukan Parlimen and 300 copies of No Judge Is a Parliament, were sold out within two weeks even though there was neither a launching or advertisement. A reprint followed immediately to meet the demand of the purchasers.

Interestingly, the purchasers/readers come from all walks of life, from Ministers, Judges of the civil and shariah courts, legal officers, civil and Syariah lawyers, academicians, teachers, ustaz as well as “penceramah bebas”.

Hakim Bukan Parlimen also won the Anugerah Buku Negara (Anugerah Perdana) (National Book Award (Premiar Award) for 2020/2021.

Emiritius Professor Dato’ Dr, Hashim Yaacob, Chairman of the Panel of Judges for the Award described the articles in the book (as well as in the website) as “Jelas, tepat dan padat” (lucid, to the point and solid) and that the book is readable and understandable by readers at all levels of the society.

From the point of view of my website and my books, the ninth year of the website (the 78th year of my age or April 2020 to April 2021) is my most successful year.

I thank the visitors of my websites and the readers of my books for their support.

TENTH YEAR

It it is unbelievable that this website had completed its 10th year which means Allah had granted me a bonus of eleven years after my surgeries in 2010. I remember, lying in hospital for what seemed to be for the rest of my life, which I thought was for about four of five months’ more, praying for four or five years more, which I thought was too excessive already. Melati, whose betrothal kept being postponed a few times, finally got married in 2012 and now has three beautiful daughters, the elder two are in standard 3 and 2 respectively. Alhamdulillah.

Even though lying on my back most of the time and in pain continuously, I am still able to write when I am lifted to sit on my bed using a laptop or using my handphone when lying on my back. That way, I produced 20 articles and one speech. The speech was videotaped and played at a function in Sarawak.

The year saw 136,880 visitors, down by 109%. I attribute this to three factors, first Covid19 and second, due to many blogs picking up the articles as soon as they are uploaded and publishing them and, third, the readers sharing the articles with their groups via WhatsApp, Facebook etc. So, even though the number of visitors has decreased, the total number of readers, I believe, have increased.

ELEVENTH YEAR

Judging from the number of articles I wrote in the 11th year (23) compared to the 10th year (20), I seem to maintain, if not slightly increase, the number of articles I wrote during the year. That is although I had stopped writing on politics in Malaysia for seven months. As a result, some of my readers had enquired about my health, prayed for my good health and urged me to keep writing.

It was not that I did not write at all during that seven month. I fact I wrote five articles on law and constitution. However, when after the State Election results in Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu and Kelantan were known and I wrote “PRN: Pengundi Melayu tolak UMNO, PKR dan PAN” my readers seem to be excited. They are happy I am writing again. They prayed for my good health so that I could continue to write for their benefit, so they said. Of course, I was elated.

Up to date, I have 44 articles which have net been published in book form. I am making arrangements to publish them as my last book. Insha Allah, it should be out soon.
